Finally a subject worthy of a blog post. So a few weeks ago I get a 'domain name registration is expiring' notice from GoDaddy. I decide to sit on it cause I am just pessimistic about this kind of stuff. Then yesterday I get another notice and it quotes the price of $7.99 to renew.
You see a couple of years ago as a joke I registered suicidalsquirrels.com. Why? Well the subdivision I lived in at the time is locally famous for two things, Christmas lights and squirrels. They (the squirrels) are everywhere and they are fearless, almost suicidal at times. So the goal was to build a web site in tribute to some of the fallen hero's of the neighborhood. Like most stupid ideas I have, this never left the drawing board. So I still have the domain name and have changed the idea from a nature web site to one for my new rock-n-roll band using the same name.
Anyway, I digress. For eight bucks I couldn't help but to re-register the site for another year. So I did and this morning I get a phone call from Tom at GoDaddy thanking me for my recent order, all eight bucks of it. Needless to say I am impressed. That they would bother to call says a lot to me about GoDaddy's focus on customer service. Excellent job guys, any new registrations (a.k.a. stupid ideas) are going to you from now on.
BTW - Doesn't that band name have a catchy ring to it? Now I just need a band..... and some musical talent. But hey, I got a name, that's a start.

I have determined that I suffer from (self diagnosed mind you) M.E., that's Mental Exhaustion for you acronym deficient people. It's the only logical conclusion that I can come up with for why I no longer update this blog on a regular basis, nor enjoy reading other blogs of a persons. I still read tech blogs daily, but that is for work, so I don't count those in this, my new syndrome. I still have my feed reader list but now I just quickly review it for sake of clean up (I hate unread items). I no longer delve into the personal adventures of others families or home improvement projects. Reports that used to occupy my day and my attention.
I think that because I have lost interest in posting those events myself, I have also lost interest in reading others. So with that said the question on the tip of your tongue is "Well, what do you spend this new found free time doing?" Answer: I honestly do not know. Maybe I need to make a schedule of my day and get back to you with an answer. Yea, a schedule, that should entertain me for awhile.

Carbon footprint this, Carbon credit that. One is way too big and the other is way too messed up. Neither will allow me to buy a new truck.

Not a darned creative thought to be found. Plenty of ramblings inside the noggin, but nothing that could be applied to the keyboard. Move along..... there is nothing to see here.

Ok, so I have Windows Vista on my work PC and I use the neat little features of the Windows Sidebar. A few weeks ago while browsing the wonderful selection of Gadgets for the sidebar, I found one that would do the local weather. It shows location, outside temperature and a graphic of the current weather condition. Well this morning, to my chin dropping amazement, the graphic is that of a bright, shiny sun. Guaranteed, first time I have seen this graphic since I loaded the gadget. Now that's a sad statement on the Houston weather.

I signed up for AT&T's U-verse TV/Internet service this morning. Since I live in a newly constructed neighborhood, I have fiber to the premise which makes me eligible. I tried the on-line sign-up but that didn't work due to the credit check. So I called the 800 number and was transferred around a couple of times until I got a hold of someone who was able to complete my order. Their intake system was a dog on speed. It took every but of an hour to complete the order, give me an account number and an install date (which is next Tuesday). Not already having a land line seemed to make the process more difficult. There was no requirement to have a land line, but I got the impression if I already had service from AT&T, then things would have been a lot faster and smoother. I am impressed on the early install date considering this is a new service in my area. I went with the U200 package which has 190 TV channels, a DVR, two other TV receivers and wireless internet all for $74 a month. That's $30 less than my current basic cable/Internet bill and I get a bunch more channels plus a DVR. Can't go wrong with that. Stay tuned for more updates to come.
